[Harp-L] Hazmat Modine

The CT-BLUS mailing list mentioned Hazmat Modine a couple of days ago, and I took the opportunity to check out the band's MP3s at their website. If you want to hear a band that really has the potential to open up some new opportunities for harp players, check these guys out.

Their songs are very simple in structure, with lots of different influences (including blues and Klezmer), and two harps (usually amped, diatonic and chromatic) in front backed by various horns, bass, drums, guitar, and occasional appearences by other, less common instruments. The tempos are mostly mid-slow to mid-fast, great for dancing and listening. Wade Schumacher's diatonic and Randy Weinstein's chromatic sound plain great together, and it's easy to enjoy every bit of it.

These guys are getting an awful lot of well-deserved attention lately in publications like the New Yorker. The band has generously provided a ton of full-length performances in MP3 format at their website at http://hazmatmodine.com. I strongly recommend that everyone reading this check it out for themselves, right now.
