RE: [Harp-L] Re: Blow/Draw Switch at Hole 7

But I don't
understand why having two C notes side by side would be so bad...the Richter
tuning already has that situation with draw 2 and blow 3.
---But those aren't both blow notes, as they are on the chromatic. There are several problems this causes, none all THAT bad, obviously :-) Here is one difficulty. Let's say you want to play the C major scale in the upper register. [Pick up your chromatic and try this if you have one.] Your first C is a blow note, right? [Actually, on the chro it could also be a draw note if you want to play the C as a B#, but that's another story....and another difficulty/opportunity]
Well, which one will you hit? 8 blow or 9 blow? If you hit 8 blow than you can't play the D as 8 draw cause 8 draw is B; you've got to play 9 blow as C in order for the D to be the 9 draw as you'd expect. Now remember, you're just going to pick up your chromatic and go straight to the upper register and play the C scale...no preliminarys, no hunting around to find the C...it's a small difficulty, and there are others, like how to play the Am arpeggio, etc...but all these difficulties are also opportunituies, as difficulties generally are.Hope this wasn't too convoluted!

P.S. For my explaintion I'm assuming a three octave chromatic.
