There's lots of good information about microphones from the Shure

The Shure 58 has a frequency response that is complimentary to many  
singers. It's a fine mic. When I record, I grab the Shure SM 57, even  
if I have the option of using a nice condensor mic. It works good for  
garage band male vocals.

Shure mics are bullet proof and cheap too.
