RE: [Harp-L] Using a cup or glass
Actually, the horns on a Hohner Trumpet Call Harmonica are not just
decorative - they actually channel a bright brassy and much louder sound
from the harmonica. I bought one last year and was surprised at how much
louder they make it. I am now experimenting with adapting the horn housing
to fit around std. diatonics as a sort of component megaphone effect. The
horns get in the way of std. hand effects, but I play in a jugband and am
constantly blowing my brains out keeping pace with the resonator guitar guy
when we busk. I guess even playing acoustically we harp players have to
compete with the guitar guys eh? The Trumpet call horn design is just a
housing fastened around the harmonica - in this case it's a double reed
plate. I'll let you know how it works out.

With the Trumpet Call, the horns were merely decorative.

I think you are refering to a 'trumpet call' harp. I believe that Hohner is
remanufacturing this model now.
