[Harp-L] RE: Stupid volumes and egos

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it helps me sing better if I can hear my
vocal louder than everything else--that's why I try to have a vocal monitor
with just my vocal in it.
I played a job last night where the band had mains and monitors, and I had
the personal monitor hooked up as well (I brought my effects rack that
includes a vocal harmonizer, and ran one side to the mains and one to my
"hot spot").
Two other lead singers in this band (4 way Street in San Diego--lots of
three part stuff) and so when I sang lead I wasn't sure I was loud enough--I
asked an audience member and he confirmed that I was just loud enough when I
was singing hard--and so probably a little quiet when singing in my lower
range.
My point is that the audience didn't have to hear me way loud, but I did--so
I guess what I am suggesting is that players and singers find a way to be
louder to themselves without making everybody else suffer.
I have a special term for music that is too loud. I call it "noise" . . .

PS I don't think the harp was loud enough as a result--I was using the vocal
mike--but no one complained about that either.
