Subject: [Harp-L] Vocal and Harmonica Microphone

Matt - there are lots of good vocal mics. I sing and play through a Shure Beta 58 and am very happy with it. The SM58 is almost as good. But your question is more about technique and/or solutions to the problem of voice level vs. harp level. When I sing, I like the mic very close to my lips for that "proximity effect." However at this level it isn't "hot" enough to play acoustic harp with my hands cupped in front of the mic. And that means I can't get that great hand-wah sound.

So I developed a volume control for low-impedance mics. Several folks on this list, including our resident star Rob Paparozzi, use my product. With the control, I simply set the PA up hot enough for my harp playing, and reduce the volume right there at the microphone a little when I sing so I can get close. Voila!

Can somone recommend a good microphone that I can single vocals through and
play harp? I want to play with some hand technique and don't want to play
though a bullet or holding another mike. I am looking for a mike that will
pick up my harp technique a few inches away..if that makes sense..
