RE: [Harp-L] harp amplification

Rod Piazza said once in an interview with Blues Revue magazine that
George "Harmonica" Smith had told him (Rod) that the only way to get
good tone on a chromatic was to "put it way back in your mouth". Rod
said that George would play the big 16-hole chromatic with his front
teeth almost at the edge of the back side of the harp! That's a big
harp. I tried that once and almost dislocated my jaw...
I guess if that's true, it would be the same with a 10-hole, in theory.
Putting the harp "way back in my mouth" works better for tongue
blocking, that's for sure. It's difficult to get full chords and a good
tone using tongue blocking techniques unless the harp is a little "deep
in the pocket". At least, that's been my experience.

Subject: [Harp-L] harp amplification

Practicing amplified last night, I found I got a better sound if I
opened my mouth really wide and pushed the harp in a little so the mic
was closer to the throat. Anyone try this?
