There are similar problems with some minidisc recorders If you can use an
external mic, the solution maybe to use a preamplifier to give you more
headroom at the input stage. Take a look at HYPERLINK

Otter box to use with my MD recorder. It's a waterproof box for the recorder
with built in mics and preamp and it works great. They have a lot of options
on their site and can customize some features of the Otter Box. Of course
this might not be the solution, but there is lots of good info at SP and you
