[Harp-L] Much ado about nothing (or the origins of the blues, country and everything)

Though we like to think in terms of simple progression, it remains that few
things work this way.
Music history is no exception. Even if the word describing something or the
first instance of something seems to come from one origin, other influences
will soon have an affect. Nothing exists in a vacuum. This can make it
difficult to be definitive as to the origin of most things. That said, I do
enjoy trying to figure it out.
Another point, for various reasons, historians are notoriously myopic.
A friend of mine is a history major from a well thought of university. He
told me the single most important thing he learned is that you cannot trust
historians.
Rainbow Jimmy says
"Let's do blues
one drop, blues dub, blues hip hop, blues lounge, and please more
blues funk."
There are musicians currently doing these styles, but his point is well
taken.
Forget what HAS been done, what are you DOING?
