Wow, that's a hard thing to do, Steve.  When my mom died about a year and a
half ago we were all too broken up to plan much of a graveside service for
her.  I was thinking of playing God Save the Queen at her grave, but instead
we just let our stepdad say some great things about our mom, some of which I
had never heard before.  It was raining and it was very depressing for us
since we had spent nine months traveling back and forth from California to
New York to be with her in the hospital. We thought she would make it but in
the end the hospital got the best of her.

But I promised her I would play God Save the Queen (to honor her British
roots) so I went back alone and played it for her later. It was one of the
saddest things I've ever done and it depresses me to this day.  But I would
have been more depressed if I hadn't gone back to play it for her.  I know
she loved it.

I feel for you Steve, but I'm sure your mother appreciated what you did.

A few weeks ago, my family asked me to play Amazing Grace at my mother's
funeral. Actually, at the gravesite. This has been something of a tradition,
as I have played it at all but one of her brothers and sisters' funerals as
well. I wasn't sure I could do it, but managed better than I expected.
Funerals, even 
those of people not really close to us, can be difficult.   Good luck to 
anyone who has to do it for one of their parents.
