your Hot Rod Deluxe has much to much gain. You should replace one or more 
tubes by such with lower gain, that means, instead of 12AX7 (gain=100) you 
should try 12AT7 (70) or 12AU7(20).
Then you can crank it up much more than now. 
The disadvantage is, that the amp is eventually not longer "hot rod" for the 
guitar with the "weaker" tubes. But swapping tubes is the way to go.
