[Harp-L] YouTube's Harpsucker
With so much mention of YouTube vids, especially from Harpsucker, I
thought some of you might be interested to know who he is. I noticed a
post on the German harplist, HarpChat, by Otto Becker ["funharp" here on
Harp-L] asking about his ID and he got a reply from "Andi_".
Harpsucker is Thomas Feldman, a harmonica and sax player and singer with
a group from Cologne, Germany, called The Swamptones. Roughly quoted
from their website, [Babel-Fished from German,] "The Swamptones play
"Louisiana Party Music" - a sharp mixture from new Orleans Rhythm'n'Blues
and Zydeco, peppered with Swamp Pop and Blues," with influences from Fats
Domino, Dr. John and Hank Williams, as well as Zydeco legends such as
Buckwheat Zydeco, Clifton Chenier, Rockin Dopsie and Lynn August.
Listening to their clips, I have to agree, as Blues and Zydeco often
split, even share, the venues in this region around Tallahassee. They
would fit right in, I bet. Those who are into the styles of Johnny
Sansone and others might dig this harper's group.
Their website, BTW... http://www.swamptones.de
And, something in English is provided here:
