Subject: [Harp-L] Re: Harp-L Digest, Vol 29, Issue 56 (airtight chromatic)

John Broecker writes in response to Noppadon about reasonably air-tight
chromatics (snipped):

"A far less expensive slide chromatic that is reasonably airtight is the
Hohner Super 64X, price around $250-$300"

...John I've just priced one online at $205....lowest price I've seen it,
but that's the professional model. My regular Super 64 is about as airtight as
they come (after being opened up and tweaked a tad) and that cost $120 new a
few months ago. ....I'd suggest always simply unscrewing the cover plates
and mouthpiece of any chromatic and retightening evenly and very carefully to
see if that eliminates potential air leakage. I've had varying degrees of
success with older Hohner chromatics of all sizes but find my oldest 10-hole
chromonica still to be the most air-tight (and mellow-toned) of all. (Of course
I'd give anything to own an original Bobbie Giordano/Douglas Tate
Renaissance!)
