For the sound of "ii-V", listen (in your imagination and inner ear if you don't have the recording) to the beginning four beats (2 measures) of "Satin Doll".
 
This is an example of "ii-V" played twice.
 
The next 2 measures feature "ii-V" also played twice, but up a whole step.
 
Can you hear it?
 
In the bridge, you will also hear "ii-V" played twice over the first 2 measures, and it resolves to the "I" in the third measure.

  having a little trouble getting the "feel" of the
ii-V-I progression (whereas the I-IV-V is like, second
nature practically). can anyone point me to some songs
(or parts of songs) that use this progression in a
fairly "plain" way? something that makes the
