hello friends!
i'm studying tonque block bending after a long pucker playing period :)
I can play straight notes with both sides of the mouth
and can bend 4 and 6 holes.
the question is
did those chicago style tonque blockers played low bends with their
left side of the mouth( corner switch) or using pucker technique?
does anyone overblow with TB?

Hey Conrad.
I Think those Chicago guys played out of both sides of their mouths while
toungeblocking...I think it was mostly the right side though and they would
probably
only switch to a lip pursing/puckering deal on the one draw/blow. However I
bet a lot of them
employed lip pursing for staccato techniques and other reasons as well lot
more than
people think. DENNIS GRUENLING (dennisgruenling.com) among others can over
blow and bend all the notes
exceptionally well out of both sides of his mouth. I saw him run the
chromatic scale
of the right corner of mouth (TB'D) the descend all three octaves
chromatically out of the
left corner! I can't remember if he reversed it, I think so,any way, I'm
sure he can and does. Apparently Joe Filisko
is great at tongue blocking over blows too but your lucky just to get to
hear Joe play and REALLY
lucky if you hear him over blowing in there. So there are basically a lot of
guys doing everything. Right now some one is
employing the illusive and widely feared X-block on the one over-blow naked
better than Little Walter.
Good question!
