Re: [Harp-L] New Years Eve space jams in minor keys
One of my favorite positions for minors is 4th (Am on a C major diatonic).
Try playing more on the higher notes, similar to Jimmy Reeds' 1st position
harp work. It's pretty easy to work up some really fast licks, e.g:
8B 8Bb 8D 7B 6D
8B 7B 6D
5B 6B 4B 6D 7B 7D 8Bb 8B
One of the more important skills involved in playing fast is breathing
patterns. It also helps you sound the notes faster if you're resonant. For
lower notes, you need more room inside your mouth, throat, etc. Higher
notes need less room. Each note has its own resonant point. When you hit
that resonance, the note will blosson into a very loud, rich, pure tone.
It's kinda hard to describe in text, but when you hit it right, it's
dramatic and you will definitely know.

Subject: [Harp-L] New Years Eve space jams in minor keys
Spent New Year's Eve jamming. Lots of spacey guitarists who love to noodle
in
minor keys. Got to play in 3rd position on the diatonic, third on the
chromatic, and 2nd on my Dorian tuned harp. I had to think a little to
really
space out and not play blues riffs in 3rd position, but that's a good
thing.If
you're bored with your progress, spend some time in mior and Dorian mode.
It's
a good way to break out of a rut.
