[Harp-L] recording your own practices
Subject: RE: [Harp-L] recording your own practices
"Thanks Richard (and everyone else who has responded). The main reason I
took the cassette recorder back was the recordings included the sound of
tape wheels winding during the recording process. <SNIP>"
"I'm not necessarily looking for studio quality, but I'd like something that
avoids excessive background noise, and at the least the noise that the
machine makes itself. I agree the minidisc option is much more expensive."
1) mechanism noises: this is directly related to using the internal
mic -- even the cheapest mic will eliminate that. I happen to have a
cheapo lavalier from Radio Shack and it definitely improves the
quality at a minimal price ( <$10). It requires a small watch
battery, so that make is a ??? condenser mic? (Keep a spare handy
for that invevitable time you leave it on: OTOH, I left mine on for
four days and it didn't run down.)
2) I musta been mistaken in thinking that mini-disk had been
discontinued as an active format. Have any new MD machines hit the
market in years??
