I was taught to play the Hammond Organ as a child and started playing
harmonica in my 20s.
I view the instruments to be quite different and I can think in terms of
either. The music theory that I learned as a child is very useful for
me in playing harminica. I do not think it is mandatory for a blues
player like myself to understand theory but it certainly makes it a lot
easier to discuss ideas with other musicians.
