Um, I don't think this could really work. You can't drill the
tapped holes larger without removing the threads. Because some of
the screws tap into the draw plate and some into the blow plate you
can't really drill the clearance holes even to move one plate back
(although that wouldn't really be advisable anyway.
Looking closely at a GM comb, I'm not sure why you couldn't
overdrill the holes a little bit to move the plates back slightly.
You would probably still have to drill out the plate holes where the
cover mounting screws pass through, since these register the plates
in place.
