You can assign almost any parameter to the expression pedal, including
volume (or gain, or delay time, or delay decay, or pitch shift, or leslie
speakers rotational velocity, or...).
I would leave the expression pedal for other uses than volume. You can use
different patches for managing volume for instance. For example, you have a
blues patch. You could copy it to another position, and change the standard
volume setting. In this way, you would have two patches, one for backing up,
another for soloing.
BTW, the USB and the extras make the RPx400 really worthwhile, if you can
spare the extra bucks.
