Re: [Harp-L] Best selling harmonicas

Brother Matt and all the harp-l-er's,

You might contact www.harphouse.com/ and speak to Scott or John at www.coast2coastmusic.com/ and ask them for the percentages. It would seem to be a given that the top sellers are a % of the top brands...I'm not trying to defer from the obvious, sorry.

Top companies are: Hohner, Hering and Suzuki (My guess. If wrong, well, my bad!). Manufacturers are many, of course, including: Bends (releasing in January), Bushman, Hering, Hohner, Huang, Johnson, Kay, Oskar, Seydel, Suzuki.

Hohner's line includes both popular diatonic and chromatic harps (sic), i.e.
diatonic - Marine Band, Golden Melody and the Special 20,
chromatic - Super chromatic 270, 64/280 and the Super 64.
Many of the Hohner products have had transitions as the popularity and prominence of one musician or another has arrived.

Hering was once a part of Hohner. Suzuki has several products at a parallel to the Hohner/Hering lines. Here we see the playability of, or ease of play. To a beginner the ability to play easily would seem most important, however, being able to play a clear single note and to develop other playing and breathing techniques, is a large part of the equation.
The Bends Adagio and Legato, Bushman Soul's Voice, Hohner Special 20, Hering Blues, Oskar Major Diatonic, Suzuki BluesMaster and Seydel Session are all plastic combed products.
