[Harp-L] RE: Harp-L Digest, Vol 40, Issue 62

Eugene says- "I think that's another thing that annoys musicians: they put a
lot of effort in rehearsing their material, with good arrangements - and to
be asked for something completely different or out of context seems to
dismiss that effort. It's kind of "the band = my personal jukebox"
phenomenon."

We just had that at a gig. We play blues and rock. Halfway through, I get a
note from an audience member-"play some country that we can 2 step to". I
would think 8 songs in, you can tell we don't know any country songs. I
guess Sweet Home Alabama, Johnny B Goode, and Mustang Sally weren't good
enough. Yes we did all of those.

Michalek said- " try it in 3rd which is a much funkier position than just
about anything else."

I was gonna ask about that. I've been doing it in 2nd pos. and don't feel
it's quite as good as it could be. Is 3rd possibly better? (I know,
subjective opinions accepted:-)) I'm not a high level player and am learning
3rd position now, as a result of reading this list, and am trying to expand
my playing. Thanks to all,

Shawn Williams
