To the person noticing it is harder to play a piece with backround music even tho you practiced a lot without backround music I ask this question:
Are you practicing with a metronome? That is often the difference. If you are playing without a metronome, your timing can be loose. Then, the steady timing of the music will be difficult to cope with.
