RE: [Harp-L] was Danny Boy now Paddy

Rice Paddy - I love it!! I shall adopt the moniker forthwith.

Apropos which version of the tuning to use, I'm not evangelical about the alternative I use. I can see that for some people losing the dominant chord on the draw and, as you say, making that draw bending very tough, would be disadvantages. I use it because it's what I came up with before I knew about harp-l and Brendan Power, and I've just stayed with out mostly out of inertia. It does work pretty well for us single-note melody-players in fast Irish tunes, and it's a bit easier to do as it avoids dismantling (especially with XB40s!).

Hi Steve,
I read somewhere (probably on this list) that this layout is often used in
Asia.
Therefore I suggest we refer to it as "Rice Paddy"!
But seriously, I can see certain advantages
- the similarity between the habitual 6/7 draw patterns and the fact that
the overblow on the 2 hole (Ab on a C harp) is not necessary whilst in terms
of disadvantage this very hole demands a vertiginous descent of 2
wholetones ( yes, A down to F, thats 4 separate semitone bends).
Tell me more.
