Re: [Harp-L] Folk disagreement -- putting on style

There real problem here is a problem to communicate.

The correct term is probably "folk-style music!? which covers a wide variety
of music ranging from what is genuine folk music and those songs written in
the style and tradition (many by singer-songwriters -- who borrowed chord
progressions and melodies).

Yankee Doodle is probably not considered a folk song by many because the only
guitar player who played it in recent memory was Chet Atkins who played it
simultaneously ("in order to save time") along with Dixie.

Kumbyah is regarded as a spiritual by some, by others as merely a corruption
of an early
Amercan (British) hymn Come By Here, My Lord.

And not only that, those radio programs that used to feature folk music now
include world music -- which is an entirely different thing.

More power to the folk!
