[Harp-L] re: octaves and chords
First print Jason's advice and hang it up in a prominent place in
yYour practice room and photocopy it so a copy can stay in your harp
case. Then try these:
You should practice your octaves anyway so have fun with them. Try
playing a riff with all octaves. Play a melody and play octaves
between the notes (Charlie Musselwhite is a master at this) Every time
you hit the 6 blow hit an octave. See how big an interval you can hit.
Go up and down the harp--1 and 4 draw, then blow, 2 and 5 draw and
blow etc. Some of these will sound awful. Remember them and throw them
in when you have a punk gig. Try sliding octaves up and down the
harp. Head shake the octaves. Play along with Foriegner's Double
Vision riffing with octaves and chords. Play Sonny Terry tunes and
throw in octaves. Just because Sonny never did it doesn't mean we
can't. Vibrato octaves. Try bending the octaves--I can get a gross sea
sick sound so far but I'm still trying.
