[Harp-L] dressing as a musician

Thought I`d get my 2 cents in...
I don`t think there`s a SPECIFIC "dress code" for musicians (and , as much as I love Rick Estrin, at some point that look becomes too much of a cliche`...), but I think it`s important to try to look good when you perform - people came to SEE you play, not just hear. When you want to just listen, the radio or a cd is good enough, the experience of live music does contain a visual element too, it`s part of performance.
I think dressing for a gig shows a certain self -respect, a respect for your audience and - most important - respect for your music. Keith Richards wears torn t-shirts on stage, but you can bet they`re not the ones he sleeps in or washes the car in - he put some thought into how to look cool in a way his audience would like (and probably paid some fashion designer $$$ for it...). So it can be jeans, suits or Tuxes, whatever is appropriate for what you`re doing, but make it look like you care.
I know that when I started making an effort to dress "up" for gigs, I started getting more respect from fans, club owners, journalists, DJs and, yes , musicians too.
