[Harp-L] MS Reed Plates (replacements)

I had spent a lot of time tweeking and doing stuff with MS stock, and I can
honestly say that in my experience, the replacement reed plates from Hohner
for the MS series are well worth the money. I justify that opinion in that
just buying these thicker plates, is worth paying for as the plates are
better than the stock thinner plates that come with the Big River, Blues
Harp, and Pro Harps. The thicker reed plates come stock with the more
expensive Hohner MS models, the Cross Harp, and Meisterklasse models.
Thicker plates means more volume in my opinion. Also, the thicker plates are
as durable as any Lee Oskar ... also my opinion.

As I said, I have tweeked and futzed with MS harps trying to optimize them
for my needs, and learned quite a bit about them - however, I lost interest
in them and moved my focus toward the Marine Band as far as spending time
messing with reed plates, customizing and so forth - heck I even decided it
was even more worth it to me to just ask Tim Moyer to do all my customizing.
heh... he does a far better job than I could.

Anyway, I am still to this day sitting on the fence, and have a few MS harps
- Cross Harps that have an "exotic wood" comb in them which I still love to
use. They just don't die, and once you have spent time working the reeds,
and customizing an MS for yourself, it's well worth the time, money, and
effort - as they will become a true workhorse.

That's my story and I am stickin to it. =)

Are the Hohner MS replacement reed plates you can buy individually
better than the ones that come on the Big River Harp? The reason I
ask is that the replacement reeds are several dollars more than the
Big River.
