Re: [Harp-L] Transition from Pucker to Tongue Block

Matt,

I decided late in April to start tongue blocking (holes 4 through 10). By the time I attended Barrett's Atlanta soloing workshop in August I though I had it down until we had to perform. Immediately, without thought, I went right back to puckering. I was very confused with myself at the time and felt like a complete beginner. Since the workshop I have gone back to the basics doing Hannon for Harp exercises up and down the harp. I have not gotten comfortable with my switch at the 3-hole and have gotten bending down as well.

My advice is to be persistent and keep practicing. It will come. I've heard you and I know you are a good harp player. You'll be great.

List Friends,

I am currently "woodshedding" and attempting to make the transition
from pucker to tongue block. I can, do vamping, fluttering, octaves,
single notes, bending etc...but find it difficult to achieve the same
tone and bending is tough. One person recommended the u block on lower
notes, but that feels like cheating to me. Any advice? I am am open to
any suggestions on playing..adding tongue blocking to popular
licks...resources...anything. Thanks
