As a first time SPAH attender I can say Whew! What a show, what an
opportunity for learning, and what an accepting community of fellow
musicians!!!
Thanks to all the players, teachers, and fellow friends of the free reed!
My personal highlight was the "Teach in" Saturday when Chris Michalek,
George Brooks, and Michael Peloquin sat and taught about improving
intonation and tonality of the OB. (thanks to Chris for tips on reed setup,
George for the theory study advice, and Michael for his comments about
intonation exercises and using music terminology rather than slang terms.
(So that harmonica music is advanced and accepted by other musicians.)
Thanks to Michael Rubin, Jimi Lee, Tim Moyer, Mojo Red, Jim Lohman, PT
Gazell, and
my next door neighbor at blues jam Warren Bee, (I made sure I didn't have to
follow him)
What a great bunch of accepting and open people.
By the way, I have a good recording of Warren Bee's solo when "bubbles"
replies "get in my bellly!"
Warren, if you would send me a request, I'll send the copy to you and you
can do with it what you want.
I left SPAH challenged, uplifted, and invigorated to continue my own musical
pursuits.
I think Jason said it all during his Friday concert when he said something
like this:
"Any sane person who gets up on this stage (at SPAH) has got to be asking
himself; What am I doing here? Because EVERYBODY out there (in the
audience) does SOMETHING better than you."
What a humbling and true statement.
