[Harp-L] Motown in 12th position
The Cooper Hill Band did a Lake Association party at the Cooper Grange
last night with around 70 people. I'll have to post a picture of the
building. Dilapadated? the asphalt shingle siding was so worn and
rotted it looked like bar code.
Anyway, the drummer and the guitarist were having great fun yelling
out tunes I never rehearsed or played before(we started with Kenny
Rogers' the Gambler--what do I do with that?). Everyone starts playing
Dancing in the Streets--another song I've never played. No key is
given and the guitar player has his back to me. I thought someone
hinted it was in E so I find this cool horn line on an A harp thinking
this Motown stuff is weird--only a few notes seem to work but it
sounds cool. The band was in D. That marks my professional debut in
12th position. I like it. Going to work at it a little more.
Actually the D major penatonic scale is the same notes as the B minor
penatonic scale so if you can play 3rd you can play 12th. If you start
at the 5 draw it's not hard at all. No overblows necessary.
