Re:Subject: [Harp-L] LD Miller info. & thanks and request for song suggestions
Nancy Oeswein writes of LD Miller (snipped):
SO THE BIG TOUGH QUESTION: If you had only 90 seconds to show off range
and variety as well as a little vocals on the #1 show in America right
now, what song would you choose?
Thanks. Nancy O.
Hi Nancy:
Because the audience for these shows seem to revert back to their childhood
and love it when a kid shows he or she can perform an old standard from long
before they were born...how about:
A little Elvis......"Are you Lonesome Tonight"....something America would
recognize....(might just do the trick)
:)
or 'Summertime"
Or Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child" (kind of apropos)
My personal taste would be something from 60's R&B....Otis Redding's "Try a
Little Tenderness"...
or Brooke Benton's "Rainy Night in Georgia".
.....But there might be something to be said about doing a completely
current song along the lines of "You're Beautiful"...by the British singer James
Blunt. It isn't Blues, but the audience would know the song. I doubt the
public at large knows or cares about the old Blues masters....and the purpose is
to get them behind LD. So bring them something they recognize and can sing
along with.
