RE: [Harp-L] gig pay

That's a pretty good way of figuring it out. About three weeks ago I subbed
for a jam host with my bandmates in the Domino Blues Band (SF Bay Area), and
we each made $60 in tips and bar. Last week we each made $50. Now I'll
admit that last week it was about 110 degrees so that might have affected
the take. But, hey, three weeks ago my playing was worth $60 and last week
I went down to $50. I should quit while I'm ahead.

Either way, I walked out of the jam worth more than I was when I walked in.
But I'm glad I kept my day job.

PS - By the way I went from that jam to another great jam in Half Moon Bay
and put $20 in the tip jar for my friend who runs the jam. What goes around
comes around.

My dad has a very cogent way of defining what you're worth : whatever
you can get ! If somebody's willing to pay you your price , whatever it is,
in a very concrete way, you're worth it. I whole heartedly concur w/ Chris
M. (for a change !) when you work your butt off as a musician you deserve to
get paid ! Every
time- benefit - whatever. It's called being a professional musician. Get
used to it . You'll like it.
