Latest Cancer Treatment Costs Bluesman His Voice

Mississippi bluesman Sam Myers, honored as a blues ambassador in the 
Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts in February and battling 
throat cancer, isn't able to sing or play harmonica since his larynx was 
removed a few weeks ago.

After several rounds of treatment, Myers' cancer had worsened. He had to 
have his larynx removed and an artificial voice box implanted, according 
to the Mississippi Arts Commission.

"He's still recovering at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, but hopes to 
return home to Texas within a week or so. His condition is good and his 
spirits are good and getting better," the e-mailed update said.
