[Harp-L] Re: New Sonny Jr. Amp Project
Sonny Jr. Ventures is now developing a new amplifier to satisfy all the
requests for something "just a bit smaller" than the 410, but with all the
capabilities to perform from a small venue to large. The 410 will always be the
King of the Beasts in our line, as evidence by over 130 satisfied customers and
reviews. I take what you all ask for and try and put it into motion, my first
prototype told me what I knew from the beginning, a Bandmaster circuit is not
optimal for harp. So we are staying with our basic 410 design, with all the
variable options, great volume before feedback, unique paper oil capacitors,
just with a slight toning down of the transformers to our specs, and a twist.
The new amp will be called Double Trouble, due to it being able to deliver
two completely different tones for different sounds and applications. One of
the best features is it will be only approx. 45 pounds, 22 x 21 x 9.5 - 10,
great for us over 50 or those who just don't need a 40 - 50 watt amp. This will
deliver 35 full watts in class A/B, speakers will be a single 12" and single
10", different from anything I have done before. Then there will be a switch
to put it into Class A cathode bias mode, and you will unplug the 10 "
speaker and drive the hell out of the single 12" for a monstrous tone with 20+
watts of class A tone, similar to a Sonny Jr 1, but with more options and
variability due to all the tube swapping that will be available. With its 35 watt
power and mic'd into a PA, you will probably be able to use it in any venue,
this amp will also have a line out so you can go directly into the PA. Custom
SJ crystal mic input, all the works, beautiful tinted and clear shelled cab.
I will choose the best 12" and 10" speakers for the job, and will be familiar
with the circuit that has proven to work for all customers. There would be
no need to buy a small amp for one purpose, then a medium amp for another.
Everyone has asked for this "medium" amp, well I will deliver more than medium
power but still keep it where it will be perfect for Any situation, and the
410 will cover the full throttle big band setup. WHEN< HOW MUCH. I plan on
hopefully finishing the prototype before my surgeries in 6 weeks, which will put
me down for a while, if all goes according to plan, there will be one, than
another two weeks later to replace the full knee. If not, this will extend for
a longer period. From there I will build my first run of 25 amps, which I
will have sold by the time they hit the floor, then continually build like I do
now with the 410. Everything will be customized, there will be a full
package included, pricing will be approximately $2500, could be less, but I refuse
to lose thousands of dollars a year just because I am a small operation and
will not sacrifice quality. Customer service from a pro harp player is
something my supporters recognize you can't put a price on. Being able to direct
someone to better tone through simple air flow alterations over the phone is
what I routinely do. I will not be doing this forever, the seminars and CD will
take time, so production may be limited. As soon as I have stock, I will let
everyone know when they become available. The 410 is still doing great, I
have a few in stock, it took 3 years to get that way. I will not take any
orders for the Double Trouble until after surgeries, anything can happen and I
would not want to put my wife or you in any financial situations. This is to
give food for thought and start looking at the Piggy with bad intent:) Thank you
for your support. Sonny Jr.
