Re: [Harp-L] Tuning Annoyances
I only fix my own harps and I don't have any high-tech gear. As I get older
my eyesight is getting tricky for close work, something I definitely need to
address next time I visit the optician. A few months ago I bought a silly
little battery LED light that straps to my forehead. You can adjust the
angle of it up and down and you can have either two, four or eight LEDs lit
at any one time. I can't tell you enough how useful this has been in my
tweaking endeavours - especially useful in emergencies when you're not at
your usual workstation. I got it in Woolworths for about eight quid!
You're totally independent of ambient light. Apropos testing your tuning
work, I just have to test with the covers held back on. Without them my
mouth shape is just too different to the usual playing shape to give a
consistent idea of the notes' pitches.
