i was gonna post earlier, but i was having trouble
figuring out how to reconcile the two sides of the
problem, which is that one hand, you have all the
great harmonica players who are obvious influences,
and on the other, you have everyone else. i tried to
find peope who combined the two, but that was
unsatisfactory - how can you mention, say, Kim Wilson
but not mention Little Walter? makes no sense. so, my
five will purposely not include any Walters, any
Sonnyboys, and no George Smith. those are givens.
the top 5 remaining harp albums that i couldn't live
without and that i draw inspiration from would then
be:
1.) King King - the Red Devils
2.) Ludella - Jimmy Rogers
3.) Junkyardmen - the Junkyardmen
4.) Hoodoo Man Blues - Jr. Wells
5.) self-titled - The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
of course, that can change a little from time to time.
non-harp, must have albums:
1.) First Issue - Billie Holiday
2.) Midnight Blue - Kenny Burrell
3.) Conga Blue - Poncho Sanchez
4.) Somethin' Else - Cannonball Adderley
5.) Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood
of course, this leaves out tons and tons of music. if
i'm ever stuck on a desert island, just give me an
iPod and a AC outlet!!
