Just my two-cents . . . Lee Oscar was most definitely one of my big
influences; I was very attracted to his ensemble playing, gorgeous tone, and
use of melody etc. . . . I played the heck out of his solo album (BLT was
one of the first cool funk tunes/lines that featured harmonica) . . .
I also had gotten a hold of a 'cassette' in the 80's by a guy named Chris
Smith that featured funk and reggae played melodically on harmonica; that
also made a big impression on me . . . that was about a decade after I
started playing . . .
AFA which harp overblows best . . . I'll have to agree with Chrissy in
Phoenix . . . G and Bb . . . you can control the OB's best on those harps,
as far as bends and vibrato, and getting richer tone . . . probably a little
more challenging to play in tune as the longer the reed, the more support
necessary . . .
