C'mon Sonny that's a little far fetched. He certainly wasn't a purist in his time. He was an innovator and they kind of guy that would play through whatever worked for him. For what I have read his gear wasn't consistent which means he was either searching for something different (innovation) or he didn't care what he used. He was into processed playing as evidenced by his used of the echo plex. That's was reltively new technology for then and a purist for that time period would shun new technology just as "purists" today shun effect pedals. I don't know if LW would be an OBer today or not but I bet he would be check out some of the new technology if only to see what might or might not sound cool. Time and harmonica tone didn't stop when LW died. I think that was the begining. If you want to be a LW purist then stop playing the way he played when he died and instead get into his head and carry on his legacy (maybe minus the drinking and fighting). Buy yourself a Wah pedal today.
