[Harp-L] RE: Meteor Amp Review

I have owned a Meteor since November of '05. I first heard this amp at a
Mark Hummell show. I ordered one the next day.

A little history, since this is my first harp-l post. I am 47 and have been
playing since I was about 17, seriously playing for about the last 15 years.
I gig regularly with a local band called "Black Cat Moan"
(blues/rock/originals). I also own a Fender '59 Bassman Re-issue with the
Kinder mod and a Silvertone 1481. For mics I use the JT30 crystal ball or
the Shure GB. (prefer the crystal ball with this amp).

Where to start with the Meteor. You can read the techie stuff on the
website and the harmony central review. This amp has tone for days, thick
dripping Chicago tone, (that horn-like tone that is so illusive) and cuts
like nothing I have ever heard before. When your bandmates are playing
Fender super's and Marshall stacks and the sound guy is telling me I am too
loud, well, you get the idea! This amp can literally make the floor shake.
It did take a bit of time to get this amp dialed in to my style/preference.
Even small adjustments to the controls can make a significant difference.
Anyway, I don't see how one could ask for much more than the Meteor
provides. It sounds great, it is beautiful, it is built like a tank, and
Scott is good people. I get compliments on it at every show. (The Fender
hasn't been uncovered since I have owned it.)

Hope this is somewhat helpful, thanks,

Pat

I'll be visiting Boston this weekend (my daughter got accepted at MIT!) Any
suggestions on blues
or harmonica entertainment while I'm there?

I for one will look forward to reading your postings. Anyone with that much
experience has much to share. I was driving into Halifax, Nova Scotia many
years ago and In trimmed hedge were the words 'Literacy, each one teach
one'. That could apply to everything that we need to learn. I think
teaching others also helps us learn as well.
Sincerely,
Gail

For many years I Antony Dannecker has fixed all my harmonicas, and he has
done a great job. Sadly he no longer repairs/re-tunes chromatic harmonicas.
Can
anyone recommend a repairer in the UK? I know Bill Rommel does a great job

in USA, but there are the problems of international shipping and customs
duty...
Best wishes

Thanks for all the suggestions and detailed information from the list.

I'm going to buy a couple of Special 20s and see if I can hear a difference
in
the chording. In the meantime I'll stick with melody lines (that's what I do
mostly anyway). I'll work on relaxing as well. Kind of an odd
juxtapostion--need to keep the music rocking, need high energy for this
music,
but need to be relaxed to do it.

Recording is an interesting art. As a bar band, you get points for
showmanship
and enthusiasm. Hard to get that across when recording. Also you can play
lots
of stuff live and it's fun. What's the point of recording Little Walter,
Chuck
Berry, or the Beatles? They've already been done better than I would ever
dream
of. So you try to come up with new stuff, but of course the new stuff is
competing with Little Walter, Chuck Berry, and the Beatles. Good thing I
have a
cast iron ego.

Now this is a very interesting bit of info that is
absolutely
worthless except on Wednesday, at two minutes and
three seconds after
1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be
01:02:03 04/05/06.
Since that won't happen again for another hundred
years, I thought
Harp-L might like to mark the event. :-)

Except for you non military people at 01:02:03
04/05/06 PM. just a 12 hour wait.

Hello out there,

you might be interested in that report
http://www.seydel1847.de/epages/Seydel.storefront/?ObjectID=52635&Locale=en_
GB

The two prototypes are the first two instruments, built exactly to the
drawings and models entrusted to Seydel by Douglas Tate.

However, during the creation of the necessary tools and manufacturing
methods we found some points we would like to improve first before we are
ready to begin taking orders. This process may take some additional time,
but we can assure you from the superb quality of the instruments we have
made so far, it will be worth the wait.

For all of these reasons we are not yet in a position where we can announce
a price for the instrument.

Right at the moment, one of the instruments is on its way to Seydel US
representative Rupert Oysler and will be showcased at the Buckeye Harmonica
Festival. Rupert will be happy to meet you there.

Yours
Michael from Seydel

Buy the album "One String Blues" (you can get it as an import from
Amazon.com). The kind of music you just can't find anymore.

For anyone who has it, what are your thoughts on the two artists on it?
