RE: [Harp-L] Bad reed I think

I will tell you what Hohner told me on the phone about 6 years ago, "Ya, we have a problem with the 4 hole draw". I like to warmth of the Special 20 and just draw a bit easier. I had to learn this the hard way. Anyway, your reed is dust! Give the new Suzuki HarpMaster's a try. Helen at Harmonicas and Stuff sent me a few and I really like them. steve thunderharpmics--- On Sat 04/01, Todd Johnson < tojohnson@xxxxxxxxxx > wrote:From: Todd Johnson [mailto: tojohnson@xxxxxxxxxx]To: harp-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx: Sat, 1 Apr 2006 11:23:05 -0600Subject: [Harp-L] Bad reed I thinkI'm new here. I've been playing harmonica on and off for about 30 years. Ididn't know about the different positions so I've always played firstposition "campfire" songs. That was kind of boring so I haven't played for anumber of years sticking to my main instrument of jazz trombone. I decidedto check the Internet for information on harmonica and boy were my eyesopened. I found out about 2nd position and
with my music theory knowledgefrom playing trombone I was quickly able to play the blues on the harmonica. In just a month I've learned a great deal from just reading the daily postshere. So, now I'm on fire for the harmonica and I think I've blown out a reed onmy Special 20. So I'm looking for some advice here. The reed seems to havelost its "spring memory". Last night at a gig the 4d reed quit sounding.Taking a look at it today found that the reed was sitting down in the gap. Ireset the gap however with the slightest push down the reed stays in thatposition. Is that what happens when they go bad? Is the only remedy toreplace the reed or the harp? Does this happen because I play too hard? Theharp is only a month old. I've checked for burrs and the like and the reedis free to move where it wants, it just stays where it moves to.Thanks in advance for any and all advice.Todd Johnson _______________________________________________Harp-L is sponsored by SPAH,
