Hi Robert,
THIS is a Boomerang, Miniature Professional to be exact. They were made by C. A.
Seydel Sohne company in Germany for the Australian market. The Australian
company was J. Albert and Son. J. Albert claimed to have "a system" that
included interchangable parts. Australia has a long history with the
harmonica, similar to that of the United States. Recomended reading: "A Band
In A Waistcoat Pocket" by Ray Grieve. Boomerangs were introduced into
Australia in the 1890's and remained popular through the 1920's. The
Boomerangs made up a complete line of harmonicas including chromatic, diatonic,
octave, tremolo and multiple-keyed models. Some had the characteristic
'boomerang' shape. These are highly prized among collectors. An interesting
thing about the one you are looking at is that it has a metal mouthpiece
screwed into the wood comb. The holes are circular. The shape of the
coverplates were commonly used by C.A. Seydel and Sohne on their line of
Bandmaster harmonicas.
Best Regards to All,
Larry Boy Pratt
