[Harp-L] Re: What to look for in a harp teacher



Larry is right in that a good teacher is different
than a good player, and his experience sounds
something like mine early on.

A good teacher (especially intermediate or advanced)
should and will find your strenghts and weaknesses and
work with them to help you have a complete package.  A
good teacher will also be a motivator, will help you
figure out where YOU want to go, and help you get
there.

It is not just about technique, and it is not just
about playing. A good teacher will help you become
(and WANT to become) a better student.

Just my immediate thoughts...I teach a lot, and I find
that making all my lessons catered to each students
level, habits and interests pays off.  Though it means
a bit more work on my end, the desired result (a
better and more-realized student) is always met.
