[Harp-L] Re : Georgia/which harp
Jerry Kitich axed :
I'd like to learn Georgia for those down times in the private jam I go to, when the guitar players take a break (which they do alot) & I can sneak in a solo.

There have been many interesting postions off'd , but if you want the deep side of it , the soulful and sweet way to go , then it's strickly 2nd. position / cross harp , as far as this wind walker is talk'n bout .
Noted experienced members have written of Mickey Rafael's version and it is one of the finest examples one could try to learn from .
My first regular paid gig was with a country western rock-n-roll/rock-a-billy band and my being hired was contingent on being able to play the stuff Mickey Rafael did and I guess I faked it good enough to get the gig .
Beside Hoagy's Geogia Mickey does a killer job on :
" Sunny Side Of The Street " .
Try that one on for size too , it is one terrific song to sink your teeth into as well . It's a song that really pop's some special syncopations if ya got it inside or want to chase something elusive that has a bigtime pay off if you nail it .
Great songs like those are a pure pleasure to play and I love it when ever I get a chance to make songs like those dance again .
I s'pose I like think'n like Duke Ellington's quote best in this regard of songs when he sez'd :
" A song is neither old nor new " .
Jerry :
To myself what is really fun in respect to the older standards is when while alone ( or sometimes with a select few ) I start to think , hmm how would Charlie MacCoy do it , or Mickey Rafael , or Sonny Boy , or Little Walter or James Cotton , or Walter Horton , or Tommy Morgan , or - - - - - heh heh it's fun .
Sincerely :
Hurricane Ramón
