Even if thicker reed plates do help to produce a louder sound there has to
be a principle of diminishing returns here. How thick is too thick to
produce further desired effect? I think the size and materials of the reed
and the chambers in the instrument, hand, and mouth/head, and the air flow
are probably bigger contributors to volume.
