[Harp-L] The list
Chris, I would email you personally but it would not get through to you as
it didn't last time. I would hope the list or the owners of the list would
filter these types of comments, this is not what I thought the list was supposed
to be about. If you want to live in your world and have that mind set I can
only truly feel sorry for you, as the harp world is such a great place to live
in, you don't have to feel that you need to Bury or destroy everyone that
comes to sit in. I have heard your CD and you have you own style, your tone is
of a different style, not the tone of hundreds of fat West Coast or Chicago
style players, but that is each person's style and preference. Give me one
note of substance of Big Walter Horton and to Me anyway that floats my boat, as
does guys of your style and vibrato who truly feel what they do and have
humility about it. Playing alongside Howard Levy ( whose tone I can tell you
have studied ) was a great inspiration for me, and having him smile and give me
the Look when I did my thing was a great feeling, but you will never hear him
talk about how great he is, and there is none better for that style. Sonny
Terry never said a word of his greatness. If you open your mind and your heart
to listening to others and enjoying your music, you will not have to stand
on a soapbox and pronounce how great you are to the world. Anger, ego and
jealousy are such destructive tools, I can speak first hand on that subject, as I
am not perfect nor proclaim to be, but has seen a light through the tunnel
and can only hope you can see it in this lifetime. Your would not need to speak
of yourself in these terms nor feel the need to destroy others that want to
play and enjoy themselves. I do not need a note back from you, I know many on
the list cringed after reading that, and I am trying to put this note into
context that can hopefully have you read it and take a step back, rather than
feel the need to immediately counter it. I am doubtful you are in that space,
but it was told to me to try, so I am. I truly respect your playing although
I do not play that style, please just lighten up and you will get to a
better place. I wish you well and hope that others can learn from this also. As it
has been shown to me, people and things are put in our lives to learn from,
whether it be a way you would like to follow, or a learning tool of something
you see in yourself that you definitely want to change. This is not a joke,
and one can't say it was only that, this to me is counter productive of harp
players working with each other as one. If the majority of the list want me
to exclude myself from it and trying to shed some light, I will and just
continue my ventures and working on my CD.
