[Harp-L] Re: Harmonica Heroes Interviews
To Dave Shannon, from HOJO: Since you've agreed to do the project of
interviewing famous harmonica players, let's make it easier for you. As you know,
Randy Singer has given a list of 37 names to contact. That's way too much work
for one person.
May I suggest that members of Harp-L who have interviewed some of those on
the list submit those interviews to you for publication. You would choose and
edit the interviews.
You may need to get permission from the publishers and the harmonica
players, and Harp-L, of course.
I've interviewed and published Howard Levy and Jerry Adler conversations,
and you have my permission to edit and publish the interviews. If you're
interested in those 2 interviews, contact me at _MilwHarmonica@xxxxxxxx
(mailto:MilwHarmonica@xxxxxxx) . That would be 2 of Randy's 37 listed harmonica heroes, a
good start. Other Harp-L subscribers could submit their interviews for your
review.
Interviews could also be used from harmonica periodicals (with the
publishers' and performers' permission). American Harmonica Newsletter (AHN), although
not publishing at this time, is an excellent source for harmonica players'
interviews. Newspapers also have interviews of harmonica heroes.
Please include these 3 harmonica heroes, not on Randy's list: Richard
Martin, editor and publisher of The Harmonica Educator, and Al Eichler and Phil
Lloyd, editors of the American Harmonica Newsmagazine . Although they aren't
performers like Toots Thielemann or Howard Levy, they certainly have contributed
greatly to the advancement of quality harmonica playing and harmonica
knowledge.
Three questions that I would include in the interviews would be:
1. What do you practice?
2. What are your 3 most favorite music recordings (not your own recordings)?
3. What music style and or technique would you like to learn, that you
haven't tried before?
Let's all help Dave in this project. HOJO.
