I used Audio Technica mics for about 8 years a while ago... I got through 3 
of them in 8 years.. They were NOT robust, Now I use SM58/SM57 Sure mics for 
"clean" sounds... and a JT-30 Crystal Balls for that "dirty" sound...
Audio Technica mics DO have a great sound, but are not as robust as Sure 
SM58s. For studio use Audio Technica are wonderful, but "on the road" Sure just 
keep on going....
Your mileage might vary...
