I use an active Goodrich volume pedal.  (Active pedals are less likely to rob your tone than passive pedals are).  Goodrich pedals are preferred among discerning steelers.

a volume pedal.....

I DON"T WANT any stinkin' wah-wah or gain, though.
Just volume control.
