Catching up on some old issues:
With regard to reading vs not reading, and playing keyed chromatics:
A player's lack of ability to read does not detract from his
musicianship, nor his musicality.
Case in point - Stevie Wonder, and the many blind musicians of this
ancient world.
The harmonica player using keyed chromatics does not detract from his
musicianship, nor his musicality.
Case in point - Les Thompson. Another is the late Herb Forcier of Flint,
MI. And undoubtedly many more who have reached well beyond the average,
to a place in the professional realm.
Most diatonic players do NOT read charts, and definitely DO play keyed
instruments - that's just part and parcel of the animal.
So let's all resolve to continue helping and encouraging each other to
advance as much as possible within the confines of each individual.
